– Bonnie Marks
TRAP Awards – Plaques
were awarded to the 2003-2004 Teacher Recognition Award recipients.
Photos and descriptions of each teacher’s class projects
are posted on the CTAP IV website.
State Education Technology Update
– http://www.cde.ca.gov/edtech/
CDE - The CDE has made extensive
changes to their website. It is harder to find the EdTech
section. From <www.cde.ca.gov>, click Learning Support
on the top menu, then Educational Technology on the left menu.
CTAP² – CTAP²
for students has been updated so that local administrators
can now reset the student groups. This means that the old
data is saved and groups of students can retake the survey.
This allows the collection of pre- and post-program student
data. It is being modified and will be shorter. However, district
administrators can still require teachers to do long version
if that is desired.
EETT requirements for CTAP² are changing. The EETT Competitive
requirement is changing to require 100% of teachers participating
in professional development under the grant to take the proficiency
and technology use sections of the survey, rather than the
current 60% of all teachers in the district. It is anticipated
that EETT Formula requirements will also change.
CTAP will offer workshops on how to set up projects in CTAP²,
which will make collecting data on a subgroup of teachers
easier.
eRate update – Wayne
Shimizu has put his most recent eRate PowerPoint presentation
on the Los Angeles COE website. This is a convenient way to
find the newest changes in erate. It will soon be linked to
the CTAP IV website.

Resource Spotlight: Seeing Reason
presented by Lucy Salerno, Travis Unified – Seeing
Reason is a new website by Intel. It helps children see the
reason behind cause-and-effect events. A 4th grade teacher
used it to address the California science standard on causes
of events studied in earth science, like earthquakes. Seeing
Reason is similar to Inspiration, but it is easier to show
causal relationships. It gives students a tool to hypothesize,
research and draw preliminary conclusions. This free resource
is available at <www.intel.com/education/seeingreason
>.
