Dreamn'
Come’n to California has been the dream, hence California
Dreamn', for many immigrants and emigrants. Tell your story
in writing and through historical imagery. Use Calisphere
(http://www.calisphere.universityofcalifornia.edu/) to
find an interesting photo that symbolizes California dreamn'
in a historical context – people, place, thing or
something tha represents your idea.
How did you/your family come to live in California? What
inspired you or your family to move here? Did you come
alone, with your family? Did you come a long time ago or
just recently? Go back in your personal history and find
your story of California’ Dream’n – coming
to California and your family story.

- Demo how
to find the full size image and copyright info in Calisphere
- Save
a photo to Picasa
Brainstorm
- Work with a partner and orally discuss the prompt
- Write
and collaborate in Docs
- Open Google Docs and write a draft, invite your
partner. (Do not send an email.)
- Write
- Read each other’s writing
- Publish to your blog
Option: link history to your writing – people, places,
events or ideas – find reliable sources on the web
to hyperlink your story
Step 2
- Search and save images
- Search for images that tell your
story. Find images that represent key elements of
your story and save them to Picasa.
- Create a Picasa web album
Step 4
- Post the url of your Picasa web slideshow on your blog
Step 5
- California Dreamn'
- Class migration and immigration map
in Google Earth with placemarker links back to
class member blogs.
