Grade 7 Unpacking created by Middle School Math Institute Participants > Resources “unpacked” > MSMP

Adding and Subtracting Integers - using a BrainPop video
Standard: Grade 7: Number Sense 1.2
These two interactive lessons address adding and subtracting integers with more than one digit.

Integer Multiplication - using a United Streaming video, Multiplying Signed Numbers
Standard: Grade 7: Number Sense 1.2
The selected videos provide a concise explanation, with examples, for multiplying both positive and negative integers. Students will have an understanding of the multiplication of integers, both positive and negative, and be familiar with the rules governing integer multiplication.

Multiplying Integers - using MathStar New Media Project, Integers
Standard: Grade 7: NS 1.2
Following video modeling, students will complete lessons on adding, subtracting and multiplying integers.

Fraction Pairs - using a BBC game, Fraction Pairs
Standard: Grade 7: NS 1.3
Using the game, Fraction Pairs, students will be able to convert fractions to decimals and percents.  They will understand the relationship between all three means of representing the quantity.

Proportions - using a BrainPop video
Standard: Grade 6: NS1.3
Students will write proportions to solve real problems.

Exponents - using an Excel spreadsheet
Standards: Grade 7:  NS 2.1
Students use an Excel spreadsheet file that calculates the value of a numerical base raised to an integer power between -10 and 10 (inclusive).  Users specify the numerical base.

Exponents - using a United Streaming video
Standards: Grade 7 NS 2.3

This audio visual video allows you to solve simple exponent problems through watching and learning the different ways an exponent problem can be addressed.

Online Manipulatives - using several online manipulatives
Standards: grade 7 AF 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
Students will use online manipulatives to solve algebraic problems

One Variable Equations - using Math.com
Standard: Grade 7: AF 1.1
Students will practice writing and solving one-step addition and subtraction equations with one variable.

Commutative and Associative Properties - using a BrainPop video
Standard: Grade 7: AF 1.3
Students will create examples of the commutative and associative properties based on the examples shown in the BrainPop video.

Distributive Property - using Interactive Mathematics, Distributive Law 1 and Law 2
Standards: Grade 7 AF 1.3
Students will use the distributive property to simplify expressions, recognize and generate equivalent forms for simple algebraic expressions. They will explore relationships between symbolic expressions and virtual manipulative models.

Systems of Linear Equations - using Math TV and graphing calculators
Standards: Grade 7 AF 1.1 and 1.5
Equations Practice makes perfect, we hope. However, the mundane may stop an adolescent from practicing.  The Math TV clip will humor your student.  The immediate feedback of the manual graphing will gratify most and the graphing calculator practice will stimulate those that want to use more technology.

\Graphing Points using a graphing calculator
Standard: Grade 7 MG 3.2 Students will use a graphing calculator to plots points on a coordinate plane. This unpacking comes from the McDougal Littell Course 2 technology book, section 3.8.

Congruent Shapes - using International Education Software, Congruent Triangles
Standard: Grade 7 MG 3.4
Two shapes may look alike, but what evidence is needed to show that they are alike?  Here is an Internet resource that offers tutorials on congruence for triangles and hands-on tools to show how shapes fit together.

Mathematical Reasoning -using online Logic Games
Standard: Grade 7 Mathematical Reasoning 1.1
Students will improve their mathematical reasoning skills by using three online games.
